Leon G1HSM to give talk on the Raspberry Pi

leon-tuning

Leon G1HSM tuning up his Yaesu 817 at a recent demo night at the Taplin Centre.

The Raspberry Pi system has become so popular with PIC programmers, tech developers, hobbyists and young learners at school that it seems only fitting that Leon G1HSM is giving a talk on the subject at the Taplin Centre on Wednesday 24th June.

Doors will be opening as 7.30pm as usual with the presentation starting shortly afterwards.

Leon is a highly knowledgeable electronics expert in the clubs ranks, and has a strong interest in PIC programming making this an evening to look forward to for any enthusiast and amidst his radio collection I believe that one of his favourites is the Yaesu 817ND pictured above. The diminutive little HF-70cm rig is quite superb and seems to follow him wherever he goes!

Leon also visited the recent Sussex Electronics Radio Fair where he and Ron G4VBK were manning the HERC stand on the day. Visit the above link for the full report of the day.

See you there on the night for the Raspberry Pi talk, it will be a good one.

New licencees pass their exams

On 23 May, Dariusz became the first candidate from the Hastings Club to sit both the Foundation and Intermediate exams on the same day. He is now the proud holder of 2E0SPH, and is now studying to sit the Advanced exam on 19 August at the registered Exam Centre arranged by Hastings ERC in conjunction with Brede Steam ARS. There are still some places available for that Exam, but contact the Exam Secretary, Steve Stewart M0SSR, at m0ssr(@)aol.com or on 01424 720815/07581 305310 well before the list closes on 15 July.

The 10th Essex Living History Group ( www.10thessex.org ) will be there engaging with the public and talking about life during WW1. During the day we put on drill displays and educational talks with a major battle re-enactment at about 3pm.

Next Clifton Country Club Net Sunday 14th June 2015

Fellow Cliftonaires,

This next Clifton Country Club net is on this Sunday 14th June .  Unfortunately prevailing ‘Inter G’ propagation  remains extremely poor on 40m with high levels of QRN. Also 80m is virtually closed until the onset of dusk.

To improve the likelihood of Inter G contacts on 40m  schedule time is moved  to the later time 15.30 Hrs GMT ( 4.30pm BST) on 7.125 Mhz, even this will not be ideal but it will allow time for a contacts before tea or supper time.

Peter (G3RQZ) suggested we try 60m  before the scheduled  net on 40m Therefore I will be calling for Clifton members on 5.320 Mhz (USB)  or on 5.335 Mhz as a secondary from 1500hrs ( 4pm BST).

We look forward hearing on the pre-net sked on 60m  or later on the ‘official’  40m net.

Catch you on the wireless!
