GB3HE – 70cm repeater up and running well

Following the recent NoV acquisition for GB3HE, Dave Williams and the team at RILGES have done nothing short of a sterling job in relocating the repeater to an excellent site at the top of Hastings which is now operating on 10w ERP using temporary hardware which has been kindly donated by the Kent Repeater group as well as other individual locations.

Several members of RILGES have donated equipment including sealed batteries, high-end coaxial cable, a Jaybeam antenna, a duplexer, logic board and other hardware to assist in the quick implementation of GB3HE at its new site at the school near the Ridge cemetary.

Over the last few weeks, signal reports have been coming in thick and fast from distant locations and has recieved much praise from amateurs who are now getting to grips with it and enjoying longer distance QSO’s with amateurs much further afield. There have been many favourable signal reports being given out as far as Rye, Kent and further east towards Plymouth as well as Enfield in North London and Norfolk which is not bad at all considering the repeater is running 10w with no pre-amplifier.

The new activity on GB3HE is a very encouraging start for rekindling local amateur radio activity over a much greater distance and the future of the repeater now looks very bright  indeed.

Dave Williams the chairman of RILGES has made a note recently that the temporary hardware which is being used now requires additional funding to improve and finalise the equipment at the new site for GB3HE, all of which will contribute towards enhanced performance and more features, one of which is the new Echolink node.

Dave has also mentioned that donations and memberships to RILGES play a very important part in the operation of the repeater and for those of us who listen and use the repeater could do much worse than contribute a few pounds or join the group which will assist in the improvement of GB3HE which has already become one of the best local repeaters Hastings and Rother has seen in recent years.
