Club ATU project in final stages – It’s a Z-Match!

Following this weeks monthly committee meeting and the hard work Rob (M0LYD) has put into bringing the project together it was decided based upon the votes of committee and club members who have contributed their ideas, to go ahead with what will most likely be a Z-Match configured ATU.

The club’s ATU project is a straightforward one at this stage and there is the possibility that an automatic one may be constructed in the future to showcase members construction skills as well as providing nice ATU’s to use on club operating days.

Rob also passed along the fact that various members in the club have also kindly donated parts to the project.

The committee extends its thanks to those who have involved themselves in the project and we are all looking forward to finalising a few final parts before construction gets underway.

More news on the project will be posted as soon as the final required parts list is established.

Robert Beck (M0LYD) managing new club ATU project

Rob M0LYD has been very busy lately organising the construction of a new 400w manual ATU for the clubs use over the last few weeks and with the input of fellow club members the design is now in the final decision making stages with regards to the components.

The club has been working together on it’s own Yahoo Group to bring this project to life with design suggestions and component donations. Once finalised and built over the forthcoming weeks, the new manual ATU will be put to work at the Taplin Centre using it’s HF antenna setup which was installed some time ago as well as the clubs outdoor events.

Following this project which is involving many of the clubs members, there is the possibility that the design and construction of a club owned automatic ATU will take place as well.

HERC has a wealth of experience on tap from long-term amateur radio constructors and looks to be the beginning of an exciting time at the club encouraging newer members to participate as well as design and build their own projects.

A word of thanks goes to Rob M0LYD for pushing the project forward and doing a great job of organising the ATU build.
