EREC sends update to their evening meeting agenda

erec-logoDave G8PUO sent through this notice which regards to a change of evening agenda.  Antennas, Radio Control and Mick Senior Visit.

EREC’s planned Alford Slot evening is being rescheduled due to changes in the design through use of laser cutting. More details on this will follow.

We still plan to include antenna building, so should you wish to bring along any antennas/designs for discussion or testing, then please continue to do so.  Dan M0HOW is bringing his antenna analyser too.

With the expanding interest in Radio Control Quads (plus variants), we will also have a range of models and hopefully even get to do some flying too (pending WX).  Some vintage models will also be on display and a radio control pro flight simulator running for those whom wish to have a go!

As some of you maybe aware, we have been seeking to have a registered RSGB Examination Center so that we can start training courses at EREC.  The good news is that Mick Senior, G4EFO, will be visiting the club on Monday too,  in order to view both the St Luke’s Church rooms (during Monday daytime), and then the Eastbourne Sports Park (evening).   We look forward to meeting and welcoming Mick.

More info can be found over at EREC:

EREC Castles on the Air (COTA) Weekend 14th & 15th June 2014

Vince Bobin (G1FBH) from the Eastbourne Electronics and Radio Club sent us an event notice for their forthcoming Castles on the Air event which will take place on the 14th and 15th of June.

Update: Vince has just informed us that Ofcom issued EREC with their call-sign for the CotA event which will be GB2PCS. It sounds as though HF will be dominant at the site but visiting amateurs are welcome to bring along VHF and/or UHF SSB if they so wish and will be accommodated for in the tent. Electricity for the weekend has been kindly provided by the landlady. Meeting is at 0900 Saturday with operating to start at 10am and finish up around 6pm. Sundays start will be a tad later at around 0930. Antennas on site will be a Windom, G5RV, half-wave 7.1mhz vertical and a Buddipole. Vince also notes that operators may be short on the Sunday so if you are available and feel like getting on the air please stop by and op or log for a while.

—- start

Eastbourne Radio & Electronics Club will once again be out running a Special Event station for this weekend at Pevensey Castle. While we will not be in the castle grounds we will be operating from opposite the main entrance to the castle in the square right next to the Royal Oak and Castle Public House.

We intend to be active from 1000hrs to 1800hrs on both days. On the Saturday setup time will be 0900hrs. This is an open invitation to any HERC members who would like to come and visit (or perhaps even operating/logging etc.). We could not have chosen a better location to operate from.

Right next to a pub that does food and not far from the local conveniences and a beer garden! There is plenty of car parking available in the adjacent car park.

We will have mainly HF operating, but we have opened up an invitation to anyone within the clubs that wants to do some 2m/70cms SSB working with their own SSB rigs and antennas. Mains electricity will be available on site for the whole weekend. Remember that Sunday is the PW QRP Contest so there will be a lot of VHF activity about.

Please come and visit us even with your family. You can pack the wife and kids off to go round the castle while you play radio!

If you need any further information or want to get involved please contact Vince (G1FBH) via email at

As yet EREC are still waiting on Ofcom to authorise the special event call-sign but this will be available shortly.

In the meantime take a look at a few pictures of the attractive site where EREC will be holding their Castles on the Air event.

EREC to operate in Windmills on the Air Sat 10th and 11th May 2014

From Vince Bobin (EREC member. G1FBH)

This coming Saturday and Sunday is the Windmills On The Air Weekend. You may or may not be aware but this is the first outside “on the air” event that the club has organised. We have three special event stations operating at Stone Cross Windmill, Windmill Hill Windmill and over in Kent Rolvenden Windmill. All the organising has been done, station equipment sorted and last weekend we did antenna tests from two of the three sites.

What we need now is members to visit the three sites. Your visit can be as short or as long as you like. Just come to say hi to us or stay and do some HF operating and logging etc. Refreshments will be available at all three sites. Why not bring the family along for a half day out. At Stone Cross the “Millers” will be in attendance to show you round the fully working windmill (all five floors, if you’re up to it to face the stairs) and explain its workings to you. The local Morris Dancers will be in attendance also! They will also be visiting Windmill Hill on the Sunday.

Setting up will be at 9:00am each day in readiness to go on the air for 10:00am for all three mills. We will finish each day between 4:00 and 5:00 pm. Let’s hope for some good weather!

A few of us have been very busy the last couple of weeks getting this all organised for what will be a pleasant weekend of radio operating. Please come along and show your support not only to us but more importantly to all the people who spend many hours renovating and working on and in the windmills. It’s all part of our heritage.

Entry is free for all.
